Health Insurance

Are You Covered?

Your student health fee covers visits to the student health clinics but does not cover the cost of referrals to specialists, medications, x-rays, hospital or ER visits.  We encourage all college students to get health insurance coverage to prevent an illness or accident from causing a financial burden.

In addition to coverage options through the Health Insurance Marketplace, a new option is available this year to low-income students through Virginia Medicaid.  Click on the Medicaid link to learn more.

Health Insurance Marketplace

Open Enrollment for the 2020 Health Insurance Marketplace runs from November 1, 2019, to December 15, 2019.  You must enroll by December 15 to start coverage on January 1, 2020.

Virginia Medicaid Coverage for Low-Income Students

Due to recent changes in Medicaid health coverage rules, many low-income students may be eligible for a new health coverage option that offers comprehensive healthcare services at low or no cost.

  • Under the new guidelines, a single adult making at or below $16,750 annually may be eligible.  Other criteria apply.  Go to to learn more and see if you qualify.
  • Enrollment for Medicaid coverage is available year-round.
